WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrades by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade items your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each few weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. button, which will show an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current Item Level upgrade level. For instance, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

They come in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type or equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades.
