WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an Item Level upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for those with lower requirements because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade items costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to use them wisely. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
