Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade an item, the player needs to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.

Typically, items that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, whereas items with strong bases like eth titans do not vary much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be used to upgrade trinkets, weapons, armor and gathering tools, providing an attribute bonus or extra effect when the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found as loot by enemies, or obtained from missions and chests. Some upgrades additionally have special cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a specific level to upgrade.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, players will have to select it and click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. The preview will appear on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected upgrade stats will be and also the component or material needed to complete the upgrade.

There are three types that are universal upgrades (which include gems) Prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be put on any type of equipment. They offer a lesser bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type limitation. If an individual upgrades a gathering tool, and then replaces the glyphs with a different one, the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component, it will be destroyed, except for the inscriptions, which are able to be swapped.

Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade process differs from previous versions in several important ways. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can be upgraded a set number of times before they're "leveled out." The upgrade cost is increased with each level, but the required materials aren't as high. Each upgrade requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, based on the type of item at its current level and in what slot it is placed in. Weapons typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item does not reach its maximum level, the NPC offers the player the choice to transfer it to another character and re-infuse the item with a different set or upgrades. This process can take up to two hours, and costs the same amount of materials. However, it has a lower success rate.

To measure the height of a structure engineers utilize an instrument to compare the measurement against an established reference point such as a benchmark or the ground's elevation. This is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the level and backsight rod and then turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method helps ensure that buildings are constructed to a high standard of accuracy and safety.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of altering an item's upgrade components. It is an important aspect of the game and can drastically increase the strength of an item, damage, or other attributes. This can be done through the item menu or pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item. Rerolling an item can be costly and should be done sparingly.

Reroll tokens are derived by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or a similar item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the level of upgrade. The rarity and the cost of upgrading an item upgrade will determine the amount of level that has been filled.

In the past, some upgrade items had priority affixes that made them easier to roll for than others. This meant that you'd receive the most crucial stats to your build more often than others. This included stats like armor's total armour, thorns, and control impaired duration reduced stats or the weapons' bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.

This has changed since the most recent patch. Priority affixes are no longer required and all upgrades will have the same chances of rolling for all stats. This could be good or bad, based on what you want and need from your equipment.

Each upgraded item can be equipped with a special bonus that boosts the power of the item by a specific percentage or a flat amount. These bonuses are offered in addition to the usual affixes. The more you upgrade an item upgrader kit, the higher the chance of receiving a unique bonus.

Sets

In general generally speaking, jewelry and weapons offer more value for trade when they are fully upgraded than armor. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have weapons-damage or spell glyphs. This will bring about a significant improvement in their performance. It will also boost the defense value of armor with a newer appearance.
