World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as crit chance and PvE damage.

If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will gain 3% of its previous damage each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can be placed in equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Enrichments and Infusions can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item upgrader mod, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of Upgrade crystals than they would require to achieve the same level using standard methods.

A boost upgrade can modify the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals.

The player is able to have the maximum of five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-level version of the item upgrade will drop in the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue upgrading their gear, even if they're unsure of how much they'll improve after a future reset.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive and it is likely that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that double or even eliminate chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in the area around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as you can to level 15.

In the final game you'll often discover that the Best item upgrade way to enhance your gear is to place Glyphs. These are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, which is the only upgrade component that can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most commonly used. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can decide to replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the value of the Glyph.

There are Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use, and through Faction Crypt raids. Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs, you will have to attach them to your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus which will boost a specific set of stat nodes that are within the radius of the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, so it is recommended to place Glyphs in strategic places on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also want to consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The upgrade system of items allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is often referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each item level requires a different amount of components to reach and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and get its extra bonuses.

When an individual player improves an item it will be replaced by the new item. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This could be a problem, as it can cause the item to become more expensive, even if you don't require it.

The upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. This will cause the Best item upgrade to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have an initial level and a completely different set of bonus bonuses. This can be useful for some items, but it shouldn't be repeated often, as it can use up a lot of resources.
