World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade

The upgrade feature for items allows players to boost the item level for weapons that can be equipped or armor. This boosts the power of the equipment, and also sometimes adding buffs or rerolling an affix.

It is important to note that although you can upgrade magic and other common equipment, it's usually not worth it. Rare and exclusive equipment will quickly surpass upgraded magic and common gear.

Cost

When a player upgrades an item, they have to pay Gold for the upgrade. The cost of upgrading an item is contingent on its current level as well as the upgrade type chosen. Upgrades to weapons are generally cheaper than upgrades for armor because weapons have lower requirements. The amount of Gold needed increases as an item is upgraded.

Upgraded items also come with upgraded stats that will improve its performance in various ways. This could mean increasing its attack power and critical strike chance or damage per second. Additionally an upgraded item might be able to give additional bonuses to its equipped unit.
