WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item level by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrade from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that are used to upgrade weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which will show an image of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item slot, and the current item level upgrade (internet) level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade item recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and an issue.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item upgrading level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they are only used for one purpose. It's best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
