Governor JB Pritzker and Flender Corporation recently announced they have expanded their manufacturing facility in Elgin that will result in 50 full-time positions while keeping the 140 full-time positions they currently have.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University is funded in part through a cooperative agreement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center offers entrepreneurs from the local area with help in beginning or expanding their business through programs such as free workshops on business planning One-on-one counseling sessions with experienced Business Advisors, and access to funding opportunities.

State leaders in Indiana are informing employers to provide higher pay and benefits as a way to keep child care workers working across the nation as they face a shortage of employment. This follows the closing of a child care center in Bronzeville which struggled to retain staff.

Illinois Department of Labor also created an online tool to help small businesses understand the laws governing employment. Employers are able to search using keywords or browse categories on this site; as well as connect to appropriate state agencies and other resources.
