WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item level upgrade by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less valuable for the latter due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the equipment being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. button, which will display an image of the item at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

Crests

Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance it's Best item upgrader to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make.
